HUUUGE Hug to you reading this!
Do you want to know why you’re screwing up your first date, I mean interview? OK, so the headline was created to catch your attention. It must have worked because you’re here. Let’s add some fun and spice to one of my favorite topics – Job Interviews.
There is one key interview preparation tool that many professionals overlook. Not only does this tool allow you to see whether or not the company really is a good fit for you; this tool also helps you to get to know about your new company even before the interview.
What is this hugely powerful overlooked tool?
– The company’s website
what’s so powerful about the company’s website? Let’s think of your interview as a first date, shall we? ; )
The company’s website is the key to their heart, only if (like in a relationships) you handle it with care. No manipulation! That will get your butt kicked, whether figuratively or literally, out the door.
OK, so ready to prepare for your 1st date? Let’s go!
I’m going to write this as if you are a man preparing for a first date with a woman who is your dream woman. OK, so here we go, your first date with your dream woman: code for dream job.
Let’s just start with this: If by browsing through your company’s dating profile (company website) you can tell in your heart that you are not a match made in heaven, then you’ll want to reconsider the 1st date. With that said, let’s get right into it.
Here are 3 things that you are going to look for on the company’s website and exactly how to use them to wow your interviewer.
What To Research: Home Page
What is the company’s image? Do you agree with their image? Does it turn you on or does it make you want to gag? It’s likely that the company will expect you to mesh with them and to some extent match up with the image they have created in some way. Do your images work together?
How to Use It:
What will you wear on the interview that will show that your image and the company’s image are complimentary? Furthermore, what attitude will you bring to the interview that will be complimentary to what the company has already created? How will you embody the characteristics that will fuel you to perform your respective role in the company with excellence unlike any that the company has seen before?
What To Research: About Us
In their About Us section how do they describe themselves? What do they like to be known for? What do they like to be referred to as?
A woman wants a man who backs up what she’s proud of. If a woman describes herself as honest she is proud of that quality and it is important for her to find a man who is also very honest. In other words, she wants to amp up the honesty in her life.
Likewise, if a company describe themselves as innovative, they want to amp up the innovation in their company.
How to Use It:
Seeing that innovation is something that the company values, you’ll want to highlight how you would like to amp up that innovation in their company. How will your unique skill set contribute to the amping up of their company’s increasingly innovative operations?
What to Research: Who they’re looking for
Knowing who your potential company is looking for will drastically increase your chances of receiving a job offer. In fact, if you’re smart, are the right fit, and you do your research before the interview; finding out who your future employer is looking for will practically guarantee that you receive a job offer.
Where do you find what they’re looking for?
- Mission and Values
- Letter from the CEO
These are all common places where the company often states directly who they’re looking for.
How easy is that!
Here’s an example from BASF.
How To Use It:
Now you know what to highlight on your interview. This is the perfect spot to find your What 3 words. In this case it would be 4 words. Asking yourself what 4 words do I want my interviewer to remember me by will give you clarity and allow you to make a powerful impression. You won’t be wondering what the interviewer thinks about you after the interview, you will know because you’ve intentionally set 4 words in mind and conveyed those 4 words throughout your interview.
If you go to the interview without visiting the company website, you go without doing your homework and it will show plain and simple. Studying and understanding the company through their website is an essential step in landing the job. It works for many professionals including my clients. In fact, heading to the company website has really given my clients confidence, ease and peace before, during and after the interview. Most importantly, they get the job!
Look for the 3 things above on the company website and use your knowledge of the company to impress the interviewer and land your perfect fit job.
Warning: If you stick with me you may start loving interviews. Think of it as a hot first date. Let’s do this!

Have you ever experienced this before?
You’re about to go up the escalator, possibly in a crowed subway, and there is a line in front of the escalator. It’s jam packed. If you follow the crowd and head up the escalator, you’re destined to be pushed slightly or maybe even accidentally touch someone’s butt.
I experienced this recently, not the touching someone’s butt part, but the crowded escalator scenario in general.
Interestingly enough, there was a staircase right next to the escalator. There were 2 people on the entire staircase and about 40 people on the escalator. I don’t remember exactly how long the escalator was, but it was filled to full capacity. Remember, there was also a line in addition to the full escalator.
So why weren’t people taking the stairs?
The simplest answer is, it was easier to take the escalator. People were willing to go out of their way to get to the escalator.
They preferred to wait in the long, crowded line due to the attraction and appeal of an easy ride once they hopped on board.
Side Note: I also have a suspicion that the 2 people who took the staircase may have taken it due to social pressure. Their internal dialogue may have looked something like this, ” I want to look like a no nonsense person who won’t wait in a silly line. That would be ridiculous to do when the staircase is wide open. I don’t want to feel ridiculous.”
Back on track: Do you see how you can use this experience for your business?
People will go out of their way to get easy.
The million dollar (potentially billion dollar) question here is: How can you make it easy for your clients?
I would give you some examples to start out with, but you know what, I want you to have a blank page to work with. I don’t want you to only get stuck into my ideas. I want you to embrace your own ideas.
So ask yourself, How can I make it easy for my clients?
P.S. I’ll be helping business owners with just this. Now I’ll be using this story to explain the ‘Make It Easy’ concept to those that I work with. Imagine adding a new business model to your company that is not only easier for your clients, but easy for you too!
Get dreaming AND get DOING!
How can you make it easy for your clients? Go do it!
If you’d like to grow your business and attract more clients by making it easier for those that you serve, go take a look at my Get Your Genius Out There! page. Here you’ll find a description of my programs and packages.
If after reading through them, you feel that one of the programs may be right for you, please schedule a get acquainted call with me via email. On this call, I will answer any questions that you have about my programs. I will get to know more about you and your situation, so that we can see if I can help.
In the meantime, start making what you offer easier for your clients.
Next week, I’ll be sharing how myself and others are doing just that. Before I share these stories, I want you to be creative yourself and come up with ways that you can make it easy for those you serve.
This could change your business.
Your clients don’t want to take the stairs, they want the escalator baby!

Far too many of us, when we think of success, think of success through someone else’s eyes. When we think of our future successful selves, we see our successful selves through someone else’s eyes. What will they see, what will they think, when they see me on TV?
Who are we trying to please anyway? I don’t want to please people, but I do want to help people. Sometimes on the route to helping people, I will displease people and I accept that.
I know what I want and I refuse to let others dictate what I want. I want to be as close to God’s vision of me as humanly possible. That’s the path I chose. That’s freedom. That’s beauty. That’s peace beyond any earthly measure.
Do you feel that too? I hope so and if not, you have something grand to look forward to. I promise you that. I promise that you have an everlasting joy waiting for you.
How do I know? Because I feel it. In fact, I feel it now as I write this. I’m writing this because I have a strong, deep, beyond me, feeling that you need this. Why else would I share my deep, intimate feelings with the entire world. I’m here for you, not me.
Don’t try squeezing yourself into the mold that the world pre-created for you. You fit perfectly into your calling from God. He knows every hair on your head. Every hair on your head fits perfectly into that mold, into that design.
If you feel that you are falling prey to a pre-determined design on your life, put yourself on check fast! Filling someone else’s shoes that you don’t even really want to fill, will not lead to fulfillment. Respect their wishes and care, but respect yourself and your God more.
Go after your meaning. Go after it with endurance. Go after it with confidence. Go after it with strength. Be persistent and hold onto your faith. You’ll need it. This is going to be a crazy, but curiously beautiful ride.
Let’s ride this journey together. Let’s share the real and the true. Be free, be you. Embrace your quirks. Embrace YOUR success.
Watch me rise. Let’s rise together. I’m here to support you.
